Batam inflation 0.09 percent

Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Riau Islands noted Batam in December 2011 had an inflation of 0.09 percent.

The increase in the consumer price index of 125.18 in November 2011 to 125.29 in December led to Batam inflation 0.09 percent, said the Chairman of Riau Islands Central Bureau of Statistics, Said Syafri, was quoted kepri.antaranews.com portal on Monday.

Inflation in December 2011 is lower when compared with the same month inflation in 2010 amounted to 0.61 percent.

In contrast, 21 other commodity prices decline, including chicken meat, fish selar, long beans, gold jewelry, spinach, potatoes, cucumbers, oranges, cell phone, wine, tomato fruit, tuna, and carrots.

Meanwhile, based on the consumer price index, inflation in Batam due to increase in foodstuff prices 0.19 percent, food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco 0.37 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel 0.08 percent, 0.10 percent of health groups, as well as transport, communication and financial services 0.06 percent.

Conversely, the clothing index actually declined by 0.63 percent, while education, recreation and sport do not change the index from the previous month.

The inflation rate calendar year (January to December) 2011 in Batam at 3.76 percent, lower than the same period the previous year which reached 7.40 percent. (source)
