Head of Department of Fisheries and Marine of Karimun Regency, Hazmi Yuliansyah said, the government plans to establish a seaweed processing plant. ''Construction of the plant is expected to encourage the development of seaweed farming in the District of Moro, "he said.

Hazmi said, the district has prepared Details Engineering Design (DED) and the land earmarked for construction of seaweed processing factory on the island of Moro.

According to him, land availability and quality of seaweed Moro qualify establishment of seaweed processing plant.

Currently, the seaweed farmers scouted by a private company, PT Bahana Cipta Arta, as well as accommodate the harvest of seaweed farmers.

She said the company is exporting seaweed as raw material, if the mini factory is established, then the future export of seaweed can be a selling price of raw materials are higher.

''The development of seaweed culture is one implementation of the designation as an area Minapolitan Moro by the central government,'' he said.

Moro seaweed has penetrated foreign markets, such as Singapore and the Philippines because of high quality with the selling price of about Rp12.000-Rp14.000 per kilogram.
