Antique Bus : Karimun Tours Icon

Antique bus iconic tourist attractions in Karimun regency, Riau Islands Province, Indonesia. The ancient bus maintained its existence by Karimun regency government as one of the attractions for tourists visiting to Tanjung Balai Karimun.

In an international and domestic port of Tanjung Balai Karimun, the porters, rickshaw and taxi drivers dressed shirt with antique bus images on the back. The Clothes with antique bus image was provided by Department of Tourism of Karimun regency as one of the efforts to promote of tourism to domestic and foreign tourists.

Antique buses are not too many, only about 40 units. This bus is unique because it is made of wood, glass in the front of the car using a wooden frame, much like the window that opened the way to uncover the top.

While the window is located to the left and right are also wood-framed and mostly left open without glass.

The buses are using a combination of red, green, yellow and blue with a capacity of about 20 passengers.

In Tanjung Balai Karimun, antique buses are only about 40 more units. Dwindling because some of them have been damaged with age.

''Some of the buses are combined with spare parts more modern buses, '' said Asan, a bus driver.

These bus transports students who want to attend school as well as employees who want to go or come home from their place of work.

Karimun Regency Tourism Office also uses these buses to transport groups of tourists from Malaysia and Singapore.

Singaporean or Malaysian, usually visit Pelawan beach, Pongkar beach and waterfall in Pongkar village.

Bus transportation is antique and unique to the attention of the tourists, they said the bus like this is never again found in the country,'' said Head of Tourism Karimun, Syuryaminsyah.

To preserve this antique bus, local government has no plans to replace them with buses that are larger and more modern.(kepri online daily)
