Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) stated the number of poor number of poor in Karimun regency, Riau Islands province reached 15.54 thousand inhabitants, or 7.28 percent of the total population in the regency.

He said the ad hoc methods of data collection, carried out by approaching chairman of the local environment to get the names of households identified as poor households, then the names of the officers approached the data collection.

Population can be classified poor are already meets 14 criteria specified. Basically surveys in 2008 and is the continuation of surveys 2005, but the journey there is improvement and progress toward goals and objectives to be achieved.

For data collection results Karimun Regency 2005 which is about 7,715 or 40,588 households targeted souls, while in 2008 reached 11,704 households or 54,903 life goals, "he said.
