Limas house is one of the historic site for the Malays who live in Riau Islands Province. In the midst of the times, limas house in the cities of Riau Islands province begin scarce, especially in the industrial city, Batam.
Department of Tourism and Culture of Batam set limas house as a site of historic Malay cultural heritage. One of the conserved limas house is located in Batu Besar, Nongsa, Batam City.
Limas House has three functions: historical, educational, and tourism.
Historical function related to the preservation of historical heritage of Malay culture in Batam. While the function of education is to make the custom house as a laboratory of history as well as youth education.
While the function of tourism is expected to become one of the objects to support the tourism city of Batam.
Cut Limas House in Teluk Village, Batu Besar, Nongsa, is a traditional house-shaped stage belongs to the family of Muhammad Haji Sain.
From the inscription found above the entrance to the house, known to the old building was established 1 November 1959.
To increase the attractiveness and sustainability of houses on stilts, the city government restore some original parts.
Restoration was done in some parts of the house without changing the original shape.
Batam City Government take advantage of some parts of the house, of which one room is used as a display diorama traditional Malay wedding.
Batam Mayor Ahmad Dahlan said the history of the City Batam The warrant stems from Dipertuanmuda Riau-Lingga to the King Isa to build a region which was then named Nongsa on December 18, 1829.
"At that time, Batam is not the center of the kingdom but just sort of giving authority to the King Isa to develop this area, so not many historical sites we could find," he said.
