Commision A of Karimun parliament in a hearing with the Head of Mining and Energy of Karimun Regency asked the local government review its mining permit on small islands because it can damage the environment and threatening the life of fishermen.

''Small islands governed utilization by the state as set forth in the law on the management of coastal regions and small islands,''said a member of Commission A Karimun parliament, Jamaluddin said after hearing with the Department of Mines and Energy.

According to Jamaluddin, small islands covering an area below 2,000 square kilometers of mined banned because it is for fishing zones for fishing and conservation areas.

''Almost the entire island in Karimun small, local government should have issued a mining permit under the applicable laws and regulations so as to avoid legal problems later in life,'' he said.

Vice Chairman of Commission A Karimun parliament, Syahril said local governments had issued mining permits in a number of small islands in the District of Moro and Durai.

''Should the issuance of mining permits on the small island was postponed pending the adoption of local regulations on spatial planning. In addition, issuance of permits should refer to the legislation are higher,''he said.

He worries issuance of mining permits on a small island ecosystem damage and disrupt the livelihoods of fishermen.

''If the whole island and the waters have become zones of the mine, we were worried fishermen can not catch fish,''he said.

Head of Mining and Energy Department of Karimun Regency Alwi Hasan in the meeting did not explain the basis of the issuance of permits related to mining in small islands.

Alwi Hassan, when asked by the commission A about small island criteria, he could not give an explanation so that the meeting ended without a conclusion or decision.

''We ask the Department of Mining to attach data to be delivered in the next meeting,'' Syahril said.
