Hundreds of Immigrant in Tanjungpinang Demand Clarity Their Status

Hundreds of immigrants from some countries, like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Sri Lanka require the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides clarity regarding the status of those who until recently was housed in Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention, Riau Islands Province.

Hundreds of immigrants held a demonstration on Monday this week in Tanjungpinang Immigration detention. They rallied while carrying a poster that asked UNCHR to immediately verify their status as refugees.

At least there are 240 immigrants rallied, including 40 immigrants from Afghanistan who had inhabited the Tanjungpinang detention house since 2010.

Head of the Tanjungpinang House Immigration Detention (Rudenim), Sugiyo, as reported kepri.antaranews.com said, the protesters demanded that met with UNHCR officials.

Among those already existing with the status of refugees, but until now has not been placed into the destination country refugee by UNHCR.

''40 Immigrants Afghanistan has long been the status of refugees, but they have not been placed in a third country into the destination country,''he said.

Immigration detention house Tanjungpinang is one shelters immigrants from various countries. Today, the House Immigration Detention Tanjungpinang accommodate 291 immigrants.
